Plan for Portfolio

For the finale of my English course, I will be going into further detail about the book and analyzing it from a feminist perspective through an essay. I was particularly fascinated by Noah’s mother. Patricia Noah. Her strengths being were revealed in the most extenuating of circumstances, how she stood firmly for everything when the odds was against her. So I’ll be taking it from that angle and highlighting that, while also speaking about the other female figures in the book. I’ll also address how society labels the feminine archetype and how women have beaten the odds and overcame those very labels.

After many internal debates, I’ve decided on a persuasive essay. I have written a compelling essay before, although I would have preferred to use a different method for practice, this style aligns more with my thesis and with that I’ll be able to get my points using the three persuasive appeals — ethos, pathos, and logos. A persuasive essay will also allow me to capture my audience’s attention by bringing them into the world I am attempting to create by including the five senses to engage their interest through imagery. Also, this style of essay writing is a bit informal and imbalanced, so executing this will be a bit of a challenge, but I will do my absolute best.

I have also chosen three media text that will assist me in better communicating my ideas about the book. These media texts are:
• A blog post
• A concept map and
• A webpage

A blog post: is ideal for it will allow me to convey my thoughts and opinion on the book informally. As I have written much blog post in the past, this medium of writing is not new to me. As stated earlier, I appreciate most of all the conversational tone that the blog incites, engaging the audience, getting them to share their opinion and ideas without feeling uncomfortable about the subject that’s being discussed. This makes this method perfect for my assignment.
A Concept map: I’ve chosen his method as a tool to get what’s on my mind on visual paper. That will allow me to organize my thoughts better and cover all basis of my topic. Furthermore, it will allow me to expand on the central topic through different branches, and the colors and images make it interesting, especially with remembering essential details. So this is a must for me.

A web page: This is unfamiliar territory for me. I have never created a web page before, but the thought of it both frightens and excites me. There isn’t a better option other than the two listed above to aid in me communicating my ideas and opinions about the book. I would say a blog post and web page go hand in hand. The web page will target a broader audience that will allow me to include videos and hyperlinks as well as different color fonts to indicate importance. The option to comment and give feedback will also be included.
